Tasmania is becoming very popular with hikers, particularly the Overland Track through the Tasmanian Wilderness. It traverses the highest ground in Tasmania. Expect to find rainforest as well as alpine environment, moors as well as sharp peaks, maybe snow, and numerous lakes. It's beautiful. The downside, of course, is the necessity of regulating the number of visitors. Bookings required from November till April.
