A popular hike from Pokhara is the climb to Poon Hill, or Ghorepani. This climb is also part of the Annapurna Circuit. But tourists who lack time like to choose this short trek, particularly for the marvellous views of the Himalaya from this 3194 m high hill. Starting from the west, the panorama includes Dhaulagiri (8167 m), then Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna South (7219 m) and Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain, 6993 m), as far as Manaslu (8156 m) in the east.
The climb itself is an infinite series of stairs, with equally infinite caravans of mules, lovely villages, rice fields and subtropical landscapes in the lower regions, and forests of rhodondendron higher up. The descent into the Kali Gandaki valley passes through these biotopes all over again in reverse. Once down in the valley, you can catch a bus and return to Pokhara, to relax in an internet café and upload your adventures to your page on Facebook.
