Leoganger Steinberge
Description
The Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge are generally described as one group, but they consist of two different massifs. The area is part of the Northern Limestone Alps. It is a modest area, southwest of Salzburg, next to the (German) Berchtesgader Alps and Chiemgau Alps. Starting from the valley floors, many hikes in this somewhat arid region with its pine clad slopes are possible. There is also a number via ferrata.
The Leoganger Steinberge constitute the southern part of the massif. Here, the Birnhorn is the highest peak, 2.634 m, and it can be climbed by experienced hikers who are not afraid to use their hands.
