Aigües Tortes is an enchanting landscape in the Spanish (Catalan) Pyrenees.
The area is full of small and large lakes. Old pine trees grow up to the mountain passes. The stone is colored and firm.
Part of the area is protected: Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici. Outside the park, the lakes are used for water and electricity.
There are approximately nine refuges in the area. The cabins are usually fully booked in summer. If you want to complete the popular Carros de Foc, a circular tour of one week which crosses the best parts of the area, then you really have to make reservations in spring. Reservations are made easy via a central website (see links).
