Koralpe
Description
Together with the Saualpe, Seetaler Alps, Packalpen and Gleinalpen, the Koralpen belong to the Levanttaler Alps. These are the last massifs, beyond which lies the city of Graz and start the plains. In southern direction the Alps continue into Slovenia for a while (Pohorje, or Bachergebirge).
The character of these mountains can be described as a rolling green, open landscape, intensively used for farming. Forests are found in the valleys. The heigths are not gritty, and are easily accessible. The highest summit is the Grosse Speikkogel, 2.140m, but most other summits remain well below this one.
The area is popular with walkers. There are many easy paths and country roads. Ideal for people who do not like the rough stuff. A sporty bearing remains desirable however, because one has to cover quite some altitude differences and distances.
