GR221 Ruta de Pedra en sec, Pollença - Port d’Andratx, 162 km, 8 days
This trail is situated on the island of Majorca. Ruta de Pedra en Sec translates to Trail of the Dry Stone Walls. Dry stone walls are a remarkable feature in the mountains of Serra de Tramuntana, along the northern coast of Majorca. For this reason, the area has been declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The GR221 uses the old paths. It is still under construction, but by using bypasses, walking entire length is possible. At the same time of developing the trail, the authorities try to restore the original dry stone cultural landscape. When finished, the total length should be 271 km.
The GR221 follows the coastline, lingers through the mountains where it reaches 1.000 m, and follows the pretty dry valleys between the mountain ridges.
The trail is marked, maps are available, refuges have been installed in old buildings, so many efforts have been done to create a good hiking experience.
