Mozambique

Description

Mozambique

Stretched out along the southeast coast of Africa lies Mozambique. The coastline is narrow and rises up to low hills, plateaus and more rugged mountains as you travel inland. Highest mountain is Monte Binga (2436 m) on Mozambique's western border with Zimbabwe, inside the beautiful Chimanimani Transfrontier Park. But Mozambique has more to offer, such as the Limpopo Transfrontier Park. Hiking with guides is possible in both these parks, with camps for lodging.

The second highest mountain of Mozambique is in the remote north of the country, Mount Namuli (2419 m) rising up from the plateau of the Namuli Massif. A bit further south are Mount Chiperone and Mount Gorongosa. These areas, renowned for rare bird species, appear to be relatively unexplored by long distance walkers.

Best time for hiking is the dry season, from April to September.
