The Rofan Mountains, also known as the Brandenberger Alps, lie entirely in Austria, bordering on Germany in the north, the Karwendel in the west and Kufstein in the east. The massif is part of the Northern Limestone Alps.

The highest peak here is the Rofanspitze (2259 m). In general, the mountains in this small area are not too high, and many are easily accessible for hikers. Multi-day hiking is made possible by using the Alpenvereinshütte and private cabins.
