County Monaghan is in the north of Ireland and borders Ulster. It is a green, quiet corner of the Irish Republic.
Our walk heads south, starting in Monaghan Town, using small roads in a predominantly rural landscape. This part of the walk goes over gently sloping hills and along hedge bordered fields. Halfway are some lakes, like Lough Mucknoo and Lough Ross. The last part of the path follows treelined river Fane and brings you to Inishkeen.
Most of the way is over small country roads, and some sections are over roads with busy traffic.
