Mt Kosciuszko (2228 m, highest Australian mainland mountain) and the Snowy Mountains (in the Australian Alps), the highest Australian mountain range, in Kosciuszko National Park offer fine alpine hiking. The only other place in Australia to find alpine landscapes is Tasmania. The mountains are covered in snow from June till October.
